FWIW, horizontal scrolling works for me on Ubuntu 5.10 (kernel 
2.6.12) with a Synaptics touch pad, although I'm not terribly 
happy w/ the action, which can be a bit jumpy.  I don't know if 
this is driver or pad specific or not.
