You might try a variation on ctrl-s, such as ctrl-alt-s if you're using 
the normal mode.  Visual studio mode uses ctrl-shift-s, though that's 
bound to save-as in normal mode.  Other personalities may have other 
bindings.

Ultimately, it's up to you and what your fingers are comfortable with :).
