This is perhaps a too-faithful emulation of emacs, which also beeps when 
isearch fails.  We probably should add a preference to turn this on or 
off.  The current workaround on Windows is to mute the PC BEEP device in 
the Volume Control.  Other OS's probably have similar controls.
