When there's a way to support development of it as open source. This
means specifically, paying the developers so they have full work days
to put into the product as they do now (rather than expecting them to
have day jobs that they don't like ;-).

We thought a lot about this, and still do, but the fact is that open
sourcing now would be economically impossible. The "sell support"
model just doesn't work when the market is software developers using
an IDE. And unfortunately the market isn't big enough to be able
to survive off donations as a few developers of mass-market open
source software have been able to.
