The way to avoid this is to copy the keymap elsewhere and use the
User Interface / Keyboard / Key Map File preference to point to
it.  That will avoid losing data across upgrades, although you'll
probably want to check the new keymap files after upgrades to
update your own w/ useful new bindings.

We're planning on adding a better way to set up custom key bindings
in the future (post-2.0).
